Freelance Life At Bohemiacademia, Week 37

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve written a round-up; sorry about that. Sometimes things just get too busy and I have to focus on doing the actual work, rather than writing about it. 😉

If you’re new here: Hi, I’m Scar, Founder & CEO here at Bohemiacademia. I do a whole bunch of things, including working from our Kensington office a couple of days a week.

Here’s what the team got up to last week.

I’ve been talking to a potential new client about some Romany sensitivity reading, which I hope we’ll get because I enjoy doing that. A lot of people include Gypsy, Romani and Traveller characters in their novels, which is fine, but without the help of a sensitivity reader it can come across badly. There are lots of incorrect stereotypes around Traveller groups, and it really does pay off to make sure your book is as accurate as possible.

I’ve also been working on the social media for The First Slap, an important book about domestic violence, written by a woman who survived it. Unusually, the book also includes the perspectives of two experts on the topic: both psychologists working with victims of domestic abuse. This adds an extra level of analysis to Tara’s harrowing story.

Liz has been busy writing reams about healthcare around the world, and now knows pretty much everything there is to know on the topic. She also takes care of the monthly Brexit round-up we write for one of our clients; not an easy subject to pin down!

The social media team has also been working away in the background: Kathy on Pinterest; Emma on Twitter and Instagram; Louise and Kathy on Facebook; and me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

We also have some space for new clients at the moment, so if you’re interested, get in touch! We have a lot of travel & life abroad writers who are available for work; several writers on topics related to disability; and a number of food writers, particularly those dealing with special diets. Drop us a line to see how we can help you.
